Travel Agencies – The Most Specialized, The Most Expensive

Expensive

The discussion on how much a travel agency can get out of you is quite complicated but there are some rules that always apply and one of them is the following: the most specialized a travel agency is, the most money they will get from you.

This rule is not because specialized agencies love money more than others, as you can imagine. But the reason in fact is very simple. How many people can you expect to book through your services if you provide travel opportunities around the whole globe? And how many can you expect if you only plan Andorra trips? Providing that you do know about the existence of Andorra and where it is placed (just between Spain and France), the situation is obvious.

The amount of people interested in visiting Andorra probably is not comparable to the quantity of people looking to travel anywhere in the world from anywhere in the world. To go deeper into this topic, I will place here an example of my trip to New Zealand from Spain morocco tour companies.

A travel agency in Spain specialized in New Zealand trips was offering myself a package for 1445 Euros (2095 US Dollars) which included flights and hiring a camper van during 28 days. That sounded like an impressive offer, specially after you do your first searches and you find it very difficult to find flights to New Zealand from Spain for less than 1500 euros.

Unfortunately, the first thing you see in the typical small letter is that airport taxes are not included and they estimate that these taxes can be around 250 euros. If we sum up, we have a total price for the agency offer of 1695 Euros (2457 dollars).

Then it comes the most crucial time on the life of the travel planner. Do you accept the proposition of the agency because they will do the job for your and you don’t mind about the price? Or maybe you prefer to look deeper and try to find out if their option is really the cheapest as they claim?

Taking the second option, the way is tough. But it does give results, and my personal result was that I could get a combination of 2 flights for only 1002 Euros and adding the price for the camper van I got a total of 1270 Euros with all taxes included. If you find out the difference, you will realize that it is equal to 425 Euros.

Simply for taking the tough option, I saved 425 Euros (616 dollars) in my trip to New Zealand. And the question is… where was this money going instead? Yes, you know the answer.
