Type 2 Diabetes – Two New Medications for Treating High Blood Sugar

Both tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and cannabidiol (CBD) are phytochemicals similar to the active ingredient in marijuana, but without the psychoactive effects. According to a report published in the journal Diabetes Care in August 2016, both molecules could be helpful in treating high blood sugar levels in people who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

THCV decreased their fasting blood sugar levels when compared with a placebo and improved the ability of their pancreas to make insulin.
CBD improved their insulin sensitivity and helped their pancreas to make insulin in response to their food intake.

From these results, researchers concluded both substances might be useful and safe as a treatment for Type 2 diabetes.

1. Inflammation. According to the National Institutes of Health in the United States, the drug CBD shows promise for treating autoimmune diseases in which the immune system can attack the heart and other organs.

3. Seizures. According to Seminars in Pediatric Neurology, May 2016, CBD is in clinical studies for treating childhood seizure disorder.

4. Spasms. Painful spasms of multiple sclerosis might yield to CBD.

5. Cancer. The researchers at Sheba Cancer Research Center in Israel are studying CBD as a treatment for neuroblastoma, or nervous system tumors.

6. Alcoholism. Studies are currently preliminary.

7. Multiple Sclerosis. According to a 2013 study in Neurobiological Disease, CBD could well be an effective treatment, due to its anti-inflammatory abilities.

8. Depression. Researchers in Spain are optimistic about using CBD as an antidepressant, according to the online version of Neuropharmacology.

9. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the New York School of Medicine in the United States, CBD can be used for a short time to treat anxiety disorders such as…

panic disorder,
social anxiety disorder,
obsessive-compulsive disorder, and
post-traumatic stress disorder.

10. Seizure disorder. In May 2016, Pharmacology Research reported CBD could be a safe and efficient treatment for seizure disorder after more and larger clinical studies have been conducted.

11. Acne. CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties could make it an excellent candidate for treating acne.

12. Alzheimer’s disease. In July 2016, Behavioral Pharmacology reported CBD could be the ideal treatment.

THVC is under investigation for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It’s calming effect could help relieve suffering in conditions that include anxiety.

Time will tell: the consensus among the Medical establishment seems to be more testing is needed.
